Natural Homemade Shampoo with Essential Oils

The Aroma Guides take a closer look at how to make natural, homemade shampoo for our crowning glories. Much like our skin, there are many different types of hair, all with different needs. So when it came to homemade shampoo, we wanted something that was simple and mild enough to use fairly regularly.

Equipment

  • Blender – immersion or regular
  • Glass bowl or jar
  • Glass, or plastic, pump bottle

Ingredients

  • 250 ml of liquid Castile soap
  • 125 ml full fat coconut milk (you can also use water, but it will change the consistency and be less moisturizing)
  • 1 tbsp aloe vera gel
  • 1 tsp carrier oil (we suggest jojoba or almond oil)
  • 25 drops essential oils – see suggestions above
  • 5 drops carrot seed oil (can omit if you don’t have this)

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to your glass bowl or jar
  • Blend well using your blender of choice or shake the jar vigorously until all ingredients are well-mixed
  • Pour the shampoo into a glass or plastic pump bottle. Enjoy!

Notes

If you want to make less, you can halve the recipe. If using coconut milk, we recommend storing part of the shampoo in the fridge if you or your household are not using it regularly. It will last for up to one month.
